
Students
Heathcote Health is a leading small rural health service located 90 minutes north of Melbourne via the Northern Highway, and 40 minutes south-east of Bendigo via the McIvor Highway. We are a 9-bed public facility which provides public and private acute care, 24 hour urgent care, district nursing, and a broad range of community and home-based services. Heathcote Health also has a 42-bed residential aged care facility.
Our catchment provides services to the Heathcote community and its surroundings. Heathcote Health is one of the largest employer in Heathcote with over 200 staff caring for our community.
Clinical Placement
Heathcote Health offers clinical placements to students from a range of disciplines. These include:
- Registered Nurse
- Enrolled Nurse
- Individual Support
- Leisure & Lifestyle
Students are supported through a preceptorship with a member of the clinical team who provides supervision and learning opportunities that supports professional development and achievement of learning objectives.
Heathcote Health utilise Placeright to plan and administer student placements. For a copy of the current student orientation booklet please ask your education provider to download from global documents on the Placeright platform.
Prior to commencing placement at Heathcote Health students will need to meet a number of requirements. These include:
- Current Police Check (within the last 12 months)
- Valid Working with Children Check
- Evidence of Vaccination (COVID 19, Influenza, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, Varicella, measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, Tuberculosis)
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
On orientation day students will be required to read and sign the Heathcote Health Privacy and confidentiality agreement.
Work Experience
Heathcote Health has a history of providing work experience/ placement opportunities for senior secondary students, and other students participating in a Vocational Education and Training (VET) program within accredited courses of study such as, Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), and VCE-Vocational Major (VCE- VM) programs.
To apply for Heathcote Health work experience opportunities, students must discuss needs with their Parent/VET Pathways Administrator/ Career Advisor or equivalent and arrange completion of a Structured Workplace Learning Agreement form. This form is to be emailed to the Learning and Development Coordinator for consideration of approval. Please note Heathcote Health can only accommodate one work experience student at a time.

Traineeships
What is a Traineeship in Health Services?
Apprenticeships and traineeships are available in many industries. They give you the opportunity to learn on the job in a real workplace while studying a VET course through a TAFE or training provider. You earn a wage, and you can be full time or part time. On completion you’ll gain a nationally recognised qualification.
In the context of aged care and hospitals, a health services traineeship can cover a wide range of roles, including:
- Aged Care Worker
- Allied Health Assistant
- Community Health Care worker
- Health administration, support and services
