The Living Longer Living Better, aged care reform package was announced by the Australian Government on 20 April 2012. The package involves a comprehensive 10 year plan to reshape aged care and build a better, fairer and more nationally consistent aged care system.
From 1 July 2014 all new residents entering aged care will have a choice as to how they pay the agreed accommodation price. Payment method can be made by lump sum, periodic payment or a combination of both. This will apply whether a new resident is entering a high care, low care, or extra service place. The current restrictions in high care on charging lump sum payments and the capping of daily accommodation charges are removed.
New residents will have up to 28 days after they enter care to decide which payment method they would prefer. Heathcote Health will not be able to withhold retention amounts from lump sum payments for new residents. Heathcote Health has set a maximum accommodation price of $550,000, which is negotiable with the health service and will be assessed against the new residents’ Centrelink entitlements.
Residents can choose to pay for their accommodation by a refundable deposit, a daily payment, or a combination of both. A refundable deposit is paid as a lump sum amount. A daily payment accrues daily and is paid periodically, for example monthly. A combination payment includes both a partial lump sum and daily payments. For further information about Heathcote Health’s Residential Aged Care Facility contact Reception on 5431 0900.
